The Unnamed Chicken project

For your viewing pleasure/horror I present to you the monstrosity that is my latest painting.
Enjoy this overly feathered disaster in poultry engineering, but be warned,
do not turn your back on it!!! EVer!

Some images of the underpaintings:

Background blocked in over a raw sienna wash
I always start with an acrylic raw sienna wash over my sketch before I start
blocking in with the oils. Rather messy looking at this stage!

Alternatively I sometimes will start the oil painting layers with alkyd oils to
get that rich oil look but with a fraction of the drying time.

Now that the first layer is dry, I build up the dark background with deep
black (lamp black and alizarin crimson) and block in most of the chicken with
titanium white with small amounts of the background mix.

For the last layer, I'm adding in all the details, intensifying the shadows and form
and unifying the whole painting ie. using glazes and colour.
