Ghost in the Machine
This is the turnip painting I'm currently working on, The basic sketch on cartridge paper, to be transferred to canvas using the good old "carbon copy" method.
The sketch has been transferred to canvas, some changes have been made, ie. the teddy hiding behind the chair was added. A was of raw sienna in acrylic has been applied over the graphite sketch, after which areas of light and shadow have been blocked in with oils.
Base colour of the sky is applied (Schmincke olive green & raw umber with a hint of cobalt blue).
I love painting clouds!!! Though with this painting I'm experimenting with new paints and canvas, here the Schmincke Zinc Titanium white is being used, as it is semi transparent and works well for glazing.
Next I started the first layer of the foreground, utilizing my usual style and love of texture (I went a bit crazy!!). I've complemented the greens in the sky with the use of venetian red mixed into the foreground :)
It's starting to take shape!! Working on the first layer of foreground details, blocked in the chair, tv and shading and early fixes to the turnip are done now.
Added the turnip ghost...and mysterious glare on the couch :(
